No new thing

“…There is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? It hath been already of old time, which was before us” (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10).

You can change the window dressing, but man has not changed

  1. Man has a soul given by God at the conception of life (Jeremiah 1:5; Isaiah 43:1; 7; 44:2; 24; Job 31:15; Galatians 1:15; Luke 1:41; 44)
  2. Man is finite, having a definable limit, a beginning and an end. “A time to be born, and a time to die…” (Ecclesiastes 3:2). Man lives and he dies. At death, the soul given by God returns unto him (Ecclesiastes 12:7). No one can prevent his soul from returning to God (Ecclesiastes 8:8).

 Sin does not change

  1. Sin is a transgression of God’s law (I John 3:4)
  2. Failure to do that which is right (James 4:17)
  3. Ignorance is not an excuse (Leviticus 4:2; 13; 22; 27)

God has set the boundaries of acceptable human behavior (Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 5:3-5; Colossians 3:5-8; I Corinthians 6:9-10; Romans 1:19-32; Jude 7), boundaries man is forbidden to alter (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19).

 God does not change

God does not change (Malachi 3:6)

God is eternal (Psalms 90:2)

There is none like Him (Isaiah 45:18; 21-22; 46:9)

The word of God does not change

(I Peter 1:23; 25)

The Divine standard:

  1. Complete (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:3)
    1. Man is forbidden to add to, subtract from or modify his word (Galatians 1:8-9; II John 9-11; Revelation 22:18-19)
  2. The word will accomplish what God intends (Isaiah 55:11)
  3. The word will examine the human heart (Hebrews 4:12)
    1. Save some and condemn others (II Corinthians 2:15-17)

 Judgment is certain

(Acts 17:30-31)

  1. At a time unannounced (I Thessalonians 5:1-3; Mark 13:32)
  2. All will be there (II Corinthians 5:10; Romans 14:10)
  3. It will be noisy, visual and destructive (I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 1:7; II Peter 3:10-13)
