A Tale Told

(Psalms 90:9-10)

“…We spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore (60) and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore (80) years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away”.

The words of Moses are a vivid reminder that life, even at its longest, is so incredibly brief, a tale that is soon cut off. If our lives are a tale told, what story will your life tell? Understanding, it is not “if” our story will be told, but only what type of story?

Will it be an ugly story of sin that we try to hide only to eventually face in judgment (II Corinthians 5:10)? The words, “…depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23) could be the last words we hear from the Son of God.

Or will it be a beautiful story of salvation, our sins forgiven and forgotten (Hebrews 8:12). The words, “…well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” (Matthew 25:21), could be the first words we hear as heaven becomes our eternal home.

What story will our lives tell? We all determine the tale that will be told; ugly or beautiful will be answered by our obedience or by our refusal to obey the Saviour of the world (I John 4:14). We can try to hide our sins until it is revealed when we have no opportunity to change it, or we can obey the gospel and have our sins forgiven.

Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 8:24)?

Will you repent of your past sins (Luke 13:3)?

Will you confess Christ before men (Matthew 10:32-33)?

Will you be baptized to have your sins forgiven (Acts 22:16)?

Then remain faithful until your days are done (Revelation 2:10)?

Our lives are a tale told, and tonight we have the opportunity to shape the story! If you have a need please come while we stand and sing.
