Being a soul winner

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise”. (Proverbs 11:30)

There are three pieces of information that every soul winner is keenly aware of:

  1. Nothing on earth can compare to the value of a soul (Matthew 16:26)
  2. A soul will exist forever (Ecclesiastes 12:7; John 11:25-26; Hebrews 9:27)
  3. There are only two possible destinations:
    1. Heaven (John 14:1-3; II Corinthians 5:1; I Peter 1:3-4; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 21:1-5)
    2. Hell (Mark 9:43; 45; 47; Matthew 25:41; 46; Revelation 20:10; 15)
Our mission and our hope is to share the message of salvation with others - What can we do to accomplish that?

Influence (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:15; I Corinthians 11:1)

  1. We cannot tell someone how important the church is if we are indifferent to its work and worship (Revelation 3:15-16)
  2. We cannot tell someone about the joy of Christianity if we look and act like a an old dried prune (I Peter 2:16)
  3. We cannot tell someone about righteous living if our language is crude and vulgar (Ephesians 4:29)
  4. We cannot tell someone about loving the brethren if we have a deadly tongue (Galatians 5:15)
  5. We cannot tell someone how we are striving for heaven if our life and actions deny the words (Ezekiel 33:31)

  1. By being vessels of honor prepared for every good work (II Timothy 2:20-21)
  2. By being filled with joy, I am a Christian, and I am thankful for the privilege (Colossians 3:15; I John 1:4)
  3. By speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15)
  4. By loving the brethren (John 13:34-35; Hebrews 13:1)
  5. By living what we believe (Ephesians 4:24)

Personal contact (Acts 20:20). We may have heard the story of the soldier sent overseas who wrote his girlfriend every day, 365 days a year, and she ended up marrying the postman. You cannot minimize personal contact

The gospel – there is only one thing on earth that can save a soul (Romans 1:16). We must preach to them (Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:18-20). The message in a moment.

We have an enemy that will employee every tactic to hinder our effort

(I Peter 5:8; John 8:44; Ephesians 6:11)

  1. False teaching (II Corinthians 11:14-15; 2:11; 17)
  2. By blinding the mind of the lost (II Corinthians 4:3-4)
  3. By sowing discord among the brethren – fighting among ourselves (Proverbs 6:19)
    1. Major on minors and Minor on majors (Matthew 23:24)
    2. Our mission is top important to get caught up in trivial matters (John 9:4)

 The message to lost souls

  1. God loves you, and he wants you to be saved (John 3:16; I Timothy 2:4)
  2. The true meaning of sin and the consequences (Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2; Romans 6:23)
  3. Christ died for our sins (Matthew 26:28; I Peter 2:24; II Corinthians 5:21)
  4. Reconciliation unto God is in one body (Ephesians 2:16; 5:23; Acts 2:47)
  5. The conditions of salvation are identical for everyone (Acts 10:34-35)
    1. Hear (Romans 10:17)
    2. Believe (Mark 16:15-16)
    3. Repentance (Acts 17:30)
    4. Confession (Romans 10:10)
    5. Baptism (Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3-5)
  6. What it means to obey the gospel:
    1. Adoption into the family of God (Galatians 4:4-7)
    2. His eyes and ears are over us (I Peter 3:12)
    3. His providential care (Romans 8:28)
    4. Name in the book of life (Revelation 20:12-15)
  7. Committed to serve Christ all of our days (Revelation 2:10)
    1. Jesus above all others (Matthew 10:34-38)
    2. The church our number one priority (Matthew 6:33; Hebrews 10:25)
    3. Living to serve (Romans 6:16-18)

Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift

(II Corinthians 9:15)
